Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Bermuda.

Captured ship: Joseph (master Alexander Carron).

Nationality: Russian.

History: bound from Wilmington, North Carolina to Liverpool, laden with tobacco and cotton; taken on 9 July 1814 by HMS Lacedaemonian (Samuel Jackson commanding), and brought into Bermuda.

Appellant: The master for the ship on behalf of Peter Van Der Vliet, a Russian subject; and for the cargo on behalf of Antonio Jose De Vieira, a Portuguese subject.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 27 June 1816 (folios 452-481) [no folios 457, 467, 471, 477, 482].

Decision: further proof required in respect of the ship and cargo.
