Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of the Cape of Good Hope.

Captured ship: United Kingdom (master William Parker D'Esterre).

Nationality: French.

History: an English East India Company ship, originally bound from London to Bengal; taken by the French in November 1809 and used as a prison ship at the Isle de France [Mauritius] but recaptured in llate 1810 by HM Land and Sea Forces under Vice-Admiral Bertie and Lieutenant General Abercrombie, and brought into the Cape of Good Hope.

Appellant: John Atkins merchant of London for the ship on behalf of himself, James Taylor, John and James Mangles, Sir Robert Wigram and others, merchants of London.

Vice-Admiral Bertie and Lieutenant General Abercrombie, the Crown and HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 7 March 1815 (folios 437-450) [no folios 442, 445, 451].

Decision: further proof required in respect of the ship, subject to the payment of the captor's costs in both courts.
