Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Sierra Leone.

Captured ship: Paquette Volante (master Joachim Chrysostomo Rodrigues Lopez).

Nationality: Portuguese.

History: a slave trader, bound from Cabinda, Angola to Bahia, Brazil, laden with enslaved people; taken on 26 August 1811 by HMS Tigress (Robert Bones commanding), and brought into Sierra Leone.

Appellant: Messrs John Coltsmann and Stack, merchants of London, for the ship and cargo on behalf of Joaquim Jose de Sequeira, Manoel Jose Da Cunha, Caetano Jose Da Cunha and Antonio Jose Meirelles of Maranhao, Brazil.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 28 May 1814 (folios 223-236) [no folio 227, 231, 235, 237].

Decision: ship, cargo and slaves to be restored.
