Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Nova Scotia.

Captured ship: Mary (master John F Brooks).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Mantanzas, Cuba, to Charleston, laden with molasses, sugar and coffee; taken about 2 July 1808 by HMS Banterer (Alexander Sheppard commanding), and brought into Halifax.

Appellant: The master for the ship and cargo on behalf of Thomas Vincent merchant of Charleston, and for the private adventures of himslef and the mate as American property.

Respondent: The captor and HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 2 May 1811 (folios 282-295).

Decision: ship and cargo to be restored, subject to further proof within 9 months.
