Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Bombay.

Captured ship: Topaz (master William Nicholls).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Baltimore to Macao via Chile, Peru and Mexico and the Pacific, laden with linen, dimity, muslins, copper, gold, silver etc; taken in fight in August 1808 by HMS Diana (William Kempthorne commanding), and brought into Bombay.

Appellant: Patrick Hadow of Bombay, partner of Messrs Bruce, Fawcett and Co of Bombay for the ship, cargo and specie, on behalf of Messrs Smith, Buchanan, Michael McBlair, and Lemuel Taylor of Baltimore.

Respondent: The captor and HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 2 May 1811 (folios 256-281) [no folios 265, 280].

Decision: against the appeal.
