Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Antigua.

Captured ship: Independence (master Stephen Griffiths).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Guadeloupe to New York, laden with sugar, coffee, cocoa and bark; taken on 9 February 1807 by HMS St Lucia (Charles Gordon commanding), and brought into Antigua.

Appellant: The master for part of the cargo on behalf of Messrs Cage and Richaud merchants of New York, and Francis Vanet of New York.

Respondent: The captor and HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 21 March 1811 (folios 219-226).

Decision: goods to be restored as claimed.
