Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Malta.

Captured ship: Sympathia (master Hans Lorentz Collundt).

Nationality: Danish.

History: bound from Lisbon to Leghorn Leghorn [Livorno], laden with cotton, wine, cinnamon, hides and other merchandise; taken on 9 April 1808 by the privateer Endeavour (Giovanni Battista Cavaghia commanding), and brought into Malta.

Appellant: John Pensa merchant of Malta for hides on behalf of Antonio Joze Bernardo Liete de Abreu, and for hides and cocoa on behalf of Antonio Joze Baptista de Sales, both merchants of Lisobon, Portuguese subjects.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 9 March 1811 (folios 177-197A) [no folios 182, 193, folios 197 and 197A].

Decision: goods to be restored to de Sales; further proof required in respect of the claim by de Abreu.
