Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Antigua.

Captured ship: Hazard (master James Larson).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Bordeaux to New Orleans, laden with brandy, claret, white wine, vinegar, oil, prunes, aniseed, cheese and corks; taken on 5 June 1807 by HMS Curieux (John Sheriff commanding) and HMS Elizabeth schooner (John Sidley commanding), and brought into Antigua.

Appellant: William Rowlett merchant of London for the ship and cargo on behalf of John Francis Merieult of New Orleans and others, American citizens and for the master's private adventure.

Respondent: The captors and HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 25 July 1810 (folios 191-213).

Decision: private adventure restored; ship and cago to be restored subject to further proof.
