Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Tortola.

Captured ship: Hercules (master Samuel Simmons or Tilney Rising).

Nationality: Swedish (originally British).

History: bound from St Bartholomew to Tortola, laden with loose cannister, grape shot and muskets; taken on 7 August 1806 by HMS Jason (Thomas John Cochrane commanding) in sight of other ships, and brought into Tortola.

Appellant: Tilney Rising mariner of Exmouth, Devon for the ship and a small amont of ammunition.

Respondent: The captor and masters of accompanying vessels, being HMS Hart brig (John S Watt commanding), HMS Tobago (Lieutenant Salmon commanding) and HMS Maria (Lieutenant Henderson commanding) and HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 25 July 1810 (folios 178-190).

Decision: for the captors.
