Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Gibraltar.

Captured ship: Two Brothers (master Samuel Candler).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Leghorn [Livorno] to Norfolk, Virginia, in ballast but with clothes and money of the master and mate; taken on 5 February 1808 by HMS La Renomme (Sir Thomas Livingstone bart commanding), and brought into Gibraltar, where she was lost in a gale.

Appellant: 1) The captor.

Respondent: John Candler and the master; 2) cross-suit.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 23 June 1810 (folios 286-303).

Decision: against the appeal of captor who remained liable for costs and damages.
