Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Antigua.

Captured ship: Alert (master Joseph Coleman).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Guadeloupe to Baltimore, laden with sugar, coffee and $5,400; taken on 22 July 1806 by the privateer Enterprise (James Coleman commanding), and brought into Antigua.

Appellant: The master for the cargo on behalf of William Patterson and sons merchants of Baltimore; (ship restored to the master at an earlier hearing).

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 2 June 1810 (folios 1-7A) [folios 7 and 7A].

Decision: reversed sentence appealed from; further proof required in respect of the $.
