Description:

Printed prize appeal from the High Court of Admiralty.

Captured ship: Eliza (master Thomas Cumming).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from New York to Bordeaux, laden with sugar, cocoa, coffee etc; taken on 26 December 1807 by HMS Tribune (Thomas Baker commanding), having previously been warned by HMS Cambrian not to proceed to Bordeaux in consequence of the blockade, and brought into Plymouth.

Appellant: William Lyman, American consul-general in London, for the ship on behalf of Jabez Hatch merchant of Boston, American citizen.

Respondent: The captor and HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 3 March 1810 (folios 546-557).

Decision: against the appeal.
