Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Jamaica.

Captured ship: Polly schooner (master John Widdefield).

Nationality: American.

History: a slave trader, bound from River Pongo on the coast of Africa to Cuba and then Boston, laden with 144 enslaved people, rice and elephants' teeth [ivory]; taken on by HMS Retribution (Samuel Peters Forster commanding), and brought into Jamaica.

Appellant: William Robert Emanuel Boyd supercargo for the cargo on behalf of Amasa Davies the younger, merchant of Boston; and for his private adventures.

Respondent: The captor and HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 1 June 1804 (folios 261-267).

Decision: cargo to be restored.
