Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Gibraltar.

Captured ship: Charlotte (master Sven Konigsen).

Nationality: Swedish.

History: bound from Barcelona to Charleston, laden with wine, brandy, almonds, nuts, soap, silk handkerchiefs etc; taken 27 July 1799 by privateers, Earl St Vincent (Marco Thomasovich commanding), General Doyle (John Brado commanding), Saint Helena (Gaetan Risco commanding), Judge Jephson (Nicholas Maratti commanding), Fortune of War (John Brurano commanding) and Good Intent (Angelo Millo commanding) and brought into Gibraltar.

Appellant: James Elmslie of Gibraltar, a partner in Robert Anderson and Co of Gibraltar, and Henry Burmester merchant of London for the cargo on behalf of John L Kern merchant and subject of Hamburg.

Respondent: The captors.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 21 March 1804 (folios 160-183).

Decision: further proof required in respect of the cargo.
