Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Jamaica.

Captured ship: Ceres (master Henrick Mangels).

Nationality: Bremen.

History: bound from Bremen to Aux Cayes, Saint Domingue, laden with timber; taken on 10 February 1801 by HMS Grice (Isaac Woolley commanding), and brought into Jamaica.

Appellant: J B Elbers for the ship and cargo on behalf of several Bremen merchants.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 14 March 1804 (folios 482-497).

Decision: ship and cargo to be restored subject to further [proof in respect of the cargo.
