Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Jamaica.

Captured ship: Achilles, previously Santa Trinidad (master Angus Sutherland).

Nationality: British.

History: as the Santa Trinidad, had been taken in December 1800 by HMS Apollo, sold to John O'Hara and Colin Campbell and renamed Achilles: bound from Port au Prince, Saint Domingue to elsewhere in Saint Domingue, laden with cocoa, cotton, coffee and $3,000 specie; taken [in early 1801] by HMS York (John Ferrier commanding), and brought into Jamaica.

Appellant: Achilles Onffroy, Edward W Purcell, Leon Worms, J P Hanbury, Colin Campbell and J O'Hara of Kingston, Jamaica.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 3 March 1804 (folios 381-396).

Decision: cargo and specie to be restored subject to further proof required as to ship, goods and specie.
