Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Nova Scotia.

Captured ship: Gadsden (master Thomas Rodman Gardner).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Rhode Island to Passage [to Spain], laden with sugar, rice, tobacco, hides and beeswax; taken on 8 September 1799 by HMS Pheasant (William Skipsey commanding), and brought into Halifax.

Appellant: Frederick Kohne merchant of Charleston, for the ship and cargo.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 22 February 1804 (folios 308-319).

Decision: ship and cargo to be restored.
