Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Montserrat.

Captured ship: Betsey (master James Stewart).

Nationality: Swedish.

History: bound from St Bartholomew to Guadeloupe, laden with glassware, dry goods, iron pots and spying glasses; taken on 12 February 1799 by the privateer Roebuck (Willian Smith commanding), and brought into Montseratt.

Appellant: Dudley Semper of Montserrat for the sloop and cargo on behalf of John Martins de Clarincieux of St Bartholomew, Swedish subject.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 1 December 1803 (folios 473-484) [no folio 477].

Decision: ship and cargo to be restored with interest; captors condemned in costs of the appeal.
