Description:

Printed prize appeal from the High Court of Admiralty.

Captured ship: Faedrelanded (master Geerdt Hoop).

Nationality: late Prussian, now Danish.

History: bound from Batavia to Copenhagen, laden with coffee, sugar, spice, indigo and other articles; taken on 17 April 1800 by HMS Earl Spencer hired cutter (Anthony Thompson commanding), and brought into Deal, then London.

Appellant: 1) The master for the ship on behalf of the widow of Hendrick Van der Berg merchant of Altona, Danush subject as sole owner; and for his private advetures.

Respondent: The captor and HMPG; 2) James Row of Newcastle, claimant of the ship on behalf of William Row of Newcastle in his own right and as executor of Robert Lisle, former owner of the ship as Priscilla of Newcastle (Christopher Tubb master), and Lucia Naters widow of Gosport on behalf of herself as sole executrix of her husband Thomas Naters, also claimant to be the former owner of the ship v The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 10 August 1803 (folios 265-293).

Decision: ship and private adventures to be restored subject to further proof.
