Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Nova Scotia.

Captured ship: Charlotte (master John Greenfield).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from New York to Amsterdam, laden with sugar, coffee, rice, spices, tobacco, fustic, hides, logwood etc; taken on 6 May 1800 by HMS Cleopatra (Isaac or Israel Pellew commanding), and brought into Halifax.

Appellant: The master for ship and cargo as the property of Messrs Coster and Co merchants of New York.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 3 May 1803 (folios 232-234).

Decision: further proof required.
