Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of the Bahamas.

Captured ship: Hope (master Samuel Herbert).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from New York to Havana, laden with flour, wine, cheese, bottled porter, starch, looking glasses, prints, dry goods, earthenware, glassware, jewelry, cutlery and lumber; taken on 25 July 1798 by the privateer Charlotte (Richard Barnett commanding), and brought into New Providence.

Appellant: The master on behalf of Charles Gobert, Charles Seton and Samuel Campbell, merchants of New York, American citizens.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 21 July 1803 (folios 505-506).

Decision: goods to be restored.
