Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Jamaica. Captured ship: Triton (master Gottfried Melm). Nationality: Bremen. History: bound from Batavia to Bremen, laden with sugar, coffee etc; taken on 7 October 1799 by the privateer Caroline (William Findlay commanding) and HMS Meleager (Charles Ogle commanding), and brought into Jamaica. Appellant: The master for the ship and cargo for himself and his crew, on behalf of Messrs Cassel and Traub, Hermann Hagedorn and son, and J F Uhthoff, Bremen merchants. Respondent: The captors and HMPG. Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 7 May 1803 (folios 231-278) [no folio 249]. Decision: cargo to be restored. Folios 230-235: case on behalf of the appellant; Folios 236-239: case on behalf of the respondent; Folio 240: decree; Folios 241-278: joint appendix |
