Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Jamaica.

Captured ship: Maria (master Bernardo Del Mello).

Nationality: Spanish.

History: bound from Havana to Vera Cruz, laden with dry goods, wine, pepper, cinnamon and other merchandise; taken on 30 May 1799 by HMS York (John Ferrier commanding), HMS Hannibal (Edward Tyrrel Smith commanding), HMS Thunderer (Temple Hardy commanding), HMS Alarm (Robert Rolles commanding), and brought into Kingston.

Appellant: The master on behalf of Don Thomas de la Cruz Munoz.

Respondent: The captors.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 13 January 1802 (folios 222-225).

Decision: for the protest, there was probable cause of seizure.
