Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Montserrat.

Captured ship: Betsey (master Pardon Tillinghast Slocum).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Guadeloupe to Rhode Island, laden with molasses, sugar, coffee, cotton and cocoa; taken on 31 January 1794 by the privateers Experiment (Daniel Morgan commanding), Union (William Emanuel Boyd commanding) and Mary (Robert Bonsal commanding) and brought into Montserrat.

Appellant: Samuel Bayard the American Agent on behalf of John Slocum, William Slocum and the master, all of Newport, Rhode Island.

Respondent: The captors.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 10 February 1801 (folios 9-17).

Decision: further proof required.
