Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Bermuda.

Captured ship: Bacchus (master Roger Robbins).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Bordeaux to Baltimore, laden with wine and brandy; taken on 14 December 1794 by HMS Thetis (Alexander Forrester Cochrane commanding) and HMS Cleopatra (Charles Vinicomb Penrose commanding), and brought into Bermuda.

Appellant: Samuel Bayard, US government Agent, for the cargo on behalf of Henry Jackson of Boston Massachusetts; and for the ship and freight on behalf of Roger Bacchus of Baltimore, the master.

Respondent: The captors.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 19 July 1800 (folios).

Decision: further proof required, and also for the London Packet and Bedford.
