Description:

Printed prize appeal from the High Court of Admiralty.

Captured ship: Hannibal (master Christopher Clouser).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Surinam to Amsterdam, laden with coffee, specie, cocoa and sugar; taken on 21 July 1795 by the privateer Manchester (John Holmes commanding), and brought into the Cove of Cork, and then into the River Thames.

Appellant: Honorius Combauld, merchant of London, on behalf of Stephen Dutilh and Godfried Wachsmuth merchants of Philadelphia, for part of the cargo.

Respondent: HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 8 March 1800 (folios 277-292).

Decision: goods condemned as droits, as the capture took place before the declaration of war with the Dutch.
