Description:

Printed prize appeal from the High Court of Admiralty.

Captured ship: Gustaf Adolph (master Paul Sneidau).

Nationality: Swedish.

History: bound from Surinam to Gothenburg, laden with sugar, cotton, coffee, cocoa and drugs; taken on 7 June 1796 by HMS Unicorn (Sit Thomas Williams commanding) and HMS Santa Margaretta (Thomas Byam Martin commanding), and brought first into Cork, and then into Portsmouth.

Appellant: The master on behalf of Messrs Johan Sahlsteen and Johan Joachim Laurin of Gothenburg.

Respondent: The captors and HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 22 June 1799 (folios 137-172).

Decision: condemned.
