Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of the Bahamas. Captured ship: Sewell (master Daniel Howland). Nationality: American. History: bound from St Marc, Saint Domingue to Baltimore, laden with coffee, sugar, cotton and indigo; taken on 18 September 1793 by the privateer Charlotte (James McAlpine commanding), and brought into Bahamas. Appellant: Samuel Bayard the American Agent on behalf of James MacKenzie of London for part of the cargo as the property of Peter Le Maigre merchant of Philadelphia. Respondent: The captor. Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 9 August 1798 (folios 159-164). Decision: ship's papers to be brought in.
