Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of the Bahamas.

Captured ship: Harmony (master William Robinson).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Bordeaux to Norfolk, Virginia, laden with wine, brandy, vinegar, gloves, silver (labelled as verdigris to prevent seamen knowning of it), fans and umbrellas; taken on 7 January 1795 by HMS Argonaut (Alexander John Ball commanding), and brought into New Providence, Bahamas.

Appellant: Samuel Bayard, the American Agent, on behalf of the master and Messrs William Pennock and Co of Norfolk.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 2 June 1798 (folios 430-456).

Decision: [silver] bullion to be restored, subject to further proof.
