Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Nova Scotia.

Captured ship: Harriet and Eliza (master Andrew Sleuman).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from New York to San Sebastian, laden with flour for the French government; taken on 7 August 1794 by HMS Resolution (Francis Pender commanding) and HMS Africa (Rodham Home commanding) brought into Halifax.

Appellant: Samuel Bayard, the American Agent, on behalf of the master, and of Caleb Stark of Dunbarton, New Hampshire, and of Ebenezer Stevens merchants of New York .

Respondent: The captors.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 29 July 1797 (folios 396-411) .

Decision: further proof required of the cargo .
