Description:

Printed prize appeal from the High Court of Admiralty.

Captured ship: Rising Sun (master Daniel Olney).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Baltimore to Bordeaux, laden with flour, coffee, deer skins, rum and tobacco, and refugees from the destruction of Cap Francois, Saint Domingue; taken on 18 April 1795 by the privateer Vulture (John Filleul commanding), and brought into Jersey.

Appellant: The master on behalf of Messrs Brown, Benson and Ives merchants of Provdence, Rhode Island; also William Coningham of London on behalf of Stephen Wilson of Baltimore.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 17 December 1795 (folios 538-569) .

Decision: to be restored.
