The series contains the agenda, minutes and summaries of The National Archives' Management Board.

Records have been selected from the '2003-2008 file plan' for Objective 7 electronic records and document management system. The Management Board is the highest committee in The National Archives responsible for the corporate governance of The National Archives. The records encompass the strategic planning and monitoring of the key projects aligned to the strategic mission and corporate objectives of the office. The records potentially embrace all the activities of the organisation, are likely to concern long term plans, and concern objectives that are critical to the success of The National Archives.

To date, only the versions of records that were made available to staff and public (from 2006) via the National Archives publication scheme under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 have been transferred.

Administrative / biographical background:

The Management Board has met once every month. It ensures that The National Archives has a clear overall direction and is making the right strategic choices. It ensures that The National Archives is being managed effectively: its people, its resources and its risks. Finally, it ensures that key decisions are being realised appropriately: the Management Board considers all key projects and all major investment decisions that have first been discussed as proposals by the Executive Team. The Management Board, as the top strategic committee, has the final decision on key issues affecting the role of The National Archives.

The Management Board comprises: the Chief Executive; the five Directors (who comprise The National Archives' Executive Team) and five non-executive Directors.

The five Directors are: the Director of Technology (and Chief Information Officer); the Director of Public Services and Marketing; the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development; the Director of Information Policy and Services; and, the Director of Corporate Services and Finance. The Chiegf Executive and the five executive directors meet every week as the Executive Team. The Directors' roles in the context of the Management Board is to be part of the overall management team of The National Archives.
