This series contains records of the Department of Trade and Industry, Ministers Offices, Electronic Diary System (POEMS), originally held in NK 2.

These records were transferred to this series as part of the programme of migration of digital records at The National Archives in March 2008 and were presented via Electronic Records Online until 2014.

The Private Office Engagement Management System (POEMS) was used to list Minister's engagements. The diaries include Minister's canceled and private engagements, but they do not contain personal data.

There are diaries from nine ministerial offices, covering the engagements of all the Department's Ministers. Among those figures whose engagements are listed are: Lord Young, Nicholas Ridley, Peter Liley and Michael Heseltine; Francis Maude, John Redwood and Neil Hamilton; Alan Clarke, Lord Trefgarne and Tim Sainsbury; Kenneth Clarke, Tony Newton, Douglas Hogg and Edward Leigh; John Butcher, Eric Forth, Lord Hesketh, Lord Reay and Richard Needham; Tim Eggar, Baroness Denton and Lord Strathclyde. The engagements of the Department's Permanent Secretaries, Sir Brian Hayes and Sir Peter Gregson, are also provided.

The Private Office Engagement Management System (POEMS) was developed by software consultants AMP Systems Limited in 1985. Information was provided by Private Secretaries in each ministerial office, and the system was updated daily. Only the Secretary of State's Private Secretaries had access to all the ministerial diaries. The Private Office Engagement Management System was not associated with any other information system.
