Administrative / biographical background:

Defence Planning Division was created in 1966 as part of the Ministry of Transport within Ports, Shipping and Defence Directorate. In 1970 it became part of the Department of the Environment, Transport Industries, and in 1976 part of the Departments of the Environment and Transport Common Services Organisation, until 1988 when it passed to the Department of Transport.
