Red Meat Slaughterhouse Industry Scheme

The Red Meat Slaughterhouse Industry Scheme. was set up under Section 8 of the Industries Act 1972, to assist improvements to slaughterhouses. The Scheme was administered jointly by the Department of Industry, who were responsible for the financial provision, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF). Slaughterhouse operators had two years in which to submit their applications for assistance and projects had to be completed within four years of commencement of the scheme. The provision of this assistance under the Industry Act also enabled participants to apply for whatever assistance might be available from EEC funds (FEOGA grants).

In July 1978 it was agreed that the Scheme should be extended by two years and the minimum project costs reduced as the uptake of the Scheme had been lower than expected. Final closing date for applications to the scheme was 30 November 1980 with projects to be completed by 30 November 1982.
