Folios 294-296. To: The Home Secretary. From: Zach Mellor, Town Clerk, Town Clerk's office, Rochdale [Lancashire]. Subject Matter: Letter enclosing a resolution for the appointing of a surveyor of paving, drainage and other works authorised under the Rochdale Improvements Act 1853 for approval, under section 7 of the Towns Improvement Clauses Act 1847 which is incorporated in the said Act, until the 9 November next at a salary of £250 per annum. Mellor explains that Mr Hewson has been appointed in place of Mr Walker, their late surveyor, whose resignation was accepted on the 5 January 1871, having been appointed surveyor of the Croydon Local Board [Surrey]. He asks for approval of the appointment of Mr Hewson as surveyor as soon as possible, in order that he may carry out his duties. |
