Thi series contains registerd files (SJ series) of the Small Firms Division. The files in this series are those of the Small Firms Service which offered various schemes to assist small companies:- the Small Firms Loan Guarantee Scheme, the Support for Marketing Scheme, tax holidays and the Business Expansion and Business Start Up schemes. General counselling and advice was also offered along with skills development which would link small firms with universities:- The Teaching Company Scheme, the Small Business Managers Teaching Programme and the New Enterprise Development Project. Small firms were also offered assistance by the British Technology Group - a partnership between the National Research Development Council, the National Enterprise Board and the private sector to promote innovation. There are also records of the Cooperative Development Agency which promoted local cooperatives and which was wound up in 1990. |
