Captured ship: La Catiche of Bordeaux, Etienne Dassié, master. History: French merchant ship with letter of marque bound from Bordeaux to Quebec laden with wine, brandy, salt pork, cheese, soap, oil, flour, candles, cordial drams, shoes, dry goods and other merchandise, captured on 7 April 1758 in 46° N by HMS Speedwell (Joseph Fraine commanding) and taken into Falmouth. [Part of convoy CQ12] - see Hugh Boscawen The Capture of Louisbourg, 1758 (2011). Documents: Court Papers - allegation; affidavit of papers; examinations; translations and abstracts of ship's papers. Ship's Papers numbered 1 to 76 - bills of lading (nos. 1 to 65); indenture binding three people to serve at Quebec for three years; blank ransom form; pass for French colonies; state of the freight, with merchant marks and names of laders and consignees; customs clearances; captain's orders from the owners; letter of marque; muster roll; cargo manifest. Number of documents: 23 court papers, plus 76 ship's papers. |
