Administrative / biographical background: |
The fire started in a Grace and Favour apartment lived in by Lady Daphne Gale, who lost her life. It severely damaged large parts of the William III King's State Apartments which were then restored to their 18th-century appearance, as designed by Christopher Wren. These records detail the operational and constructional elements of that work. During this period the rest of the palace remained open. |
