Description:

Folios 335-336.

To: The General Board of Health.

From: George Bailey, Clerk to the Luton Local Board, Luton [Bedfordshire].

Subject Matter: Letter referring to an unexpected difficulty in the works being carried out for the intercepting sewer having to be carried through a field out of the district in the hamlet of Limbury, but part of the parish of Luton. Bailey describes where this field is located in relation to the town. He adds that the owners refuse the Luton Local Board from carrying the intercepting sewer into their field. He asks therefore whether an Order in Council or Provisional Order could be obtained for extending the powers of the Public Health Act 1848 over this field, which is about 3 acres in size. He also points out that this could be great source of annoyance another time if the field was built upon as it is in very close proximity to the town. He also asks as to the costs of applying the powers of this Act over the field, which would be an important consideration to the Board.
