To: William Clarke, Churchwarden, Luton [Bedfordshire].

From: The General Board of Health.

Subject Matter: Draft letter acknowledging receipt of a petition of the 25 March 1850 signed by Clarke and other ratepayers of Luton praying that the measures recommended in the report of the Preliminary Inquiry into the sanitary condition of the town, is not enforced, on several grounds such as insufficient signatures to the original petition, the town not being in an unhealthy state and the inability of the inhabitants to bear to necessary costs. It is advised that the petition will be laid before the Board at their next meeting.
