In 1977 the Economics, Railways and Ports Division was set up in the Departments of the Environment and Transport Common Services. It was responsible for providing advice on railways; investment reviews; grants and subsidies and economic advice on ports and inland waterways. In 1978 the Division was re-named the Economics, Railways, Ports and General Division. In 1980 the Economic, Railways Division was created: it retained all the functions of the Economics, Railways, Ports and General Division, with the exception of the provision of advice on port and inland waterways. The division ceased to exist in 1983. |
