Administrative / biographical background: |
Between 1974 and 1976 responsibility for energy conservation rested with the Department of Energy's Technology Department, but in 1976 it passed to the newly formed Energy Conservation Unit. Three years later the Unit was renamed the Energy Conservation Division and continued under this name until it was abolished in 1983. Following the General Election in 1992 it was announced that the Department of Energy was to be abolished. Whilst most of the Department of Energy's functions were transferred to the Department of Trade and Industry, responsibility for energy conservation was assumed by the Department of the Environment. |
