The Advisory Board for the Research Councils replaced the Council for Scientific Policy in 1972 in accordance with the White Paper" Framework for Government Research and Development" (Cmnd 5046). The new body was responsible for:-
Each of the five Research Councils, the University Grants Committee, senior scientists from Departments with a major interest in the work of the Research Councils and the Chief Scientific Adviser were represented on the Board as well as independent members drawn from the universities, industry and the Royal Society of London. The Secretariat for the Board was provided by the Department of Education and Science. |
