Description:

Folio(s) 87-88. Letter from Ralph Fletcher, Lancashire magistrate, at Bolton le Moors, referring to a seditious meeting likely to take place near Buckton Castle. He notes that if, as expected, they disperse as soon as the Riot Act is read, they cannot be arrested. However, he suggests that they could be impressed for the Navy as idle and disorderly persons. He appreciates that they would hardly be ideal recruits but that even the threat of a short term in the Navy would effectively discourage further meetings.
