Administrative / biographical background:

British Transport Advertising Ltd was formed in November 1961 to take over the remaining activities of the Commercial Advertising Service of the British Transport Commission. It was owned as a joint subsidiary by the British Railways Board and the National Bus Company. Following the Transport Act of 1985 the National Bus Company was required to dispose of its shares in the company. On 21 June 1986 the British Transport Advertising Division was established as a commercial division of the British Railways Board.
