Selection and destruction information: | Only three files have been selected. They include minutes of meetings and reports on the proposals for, and progress of, the electrification, resignalling, and rationalisation of the route. Reference is also made to the the Great Northern lines suburban electrification and the King's Cross to Sandy route simplification and speed improvements. These files have national significance in that the "BedPan" electrification involved the first (abortive)proposal to use driver only trains. They have been selected as supporting the appraisal criterion on the economic, social and demographic condition of the UK. |

Administrative / biographical background: |
Provenance of these files is uncertain. Their file references are not in the usual board's format. They are, however, at a strategic level and include memoranda to the chief executive. |
