Administrative / biographical background:

Singapore joined the Federation of Malaysia as a state in September 1963, but left Malaysia and became an independent state in August 1965. At that point, UK relations with Singapore, previously handled by the High Commissioner in Kuala Lumpur, were through a new High Commission in Singapore.
