Administrative / biographical background:

The UK was a founder member of NATO when it was established in 1949. Initially based in Paris, UK business with NATO was handled by the Permanent UK Delegation in Paris (which also dealt with Organisation for European Economic Co-ordination business) until 1960, when a separate delegation to NATO was established. The delegation moved to Brussels when NATO headquarters were re-located there in 1967.
