43. Dartmouth to Howe. Enclosing extracts of two letters from Governor Martin of North Carolina. Regarding his having been driven on board HMS 'Cruizen' on the Cape Fear River, after the burning down of Fort Johnson by the [king's] rebellious subjects . Recommendation that 10,000 stand of arms and six light field pieces be sent to reduce the Carolinas to obedience, and prevent Virginia from sending auxiliary troops to the northern colonies. |
